What is a BB and CC cream?

What is a BB and CC cream?

You have most likely heard these acronyms thrown around before, if you’re wondering what they mean and how they work, you’re not alone. Many skincare brands have even begun using DD, EE…. XYZ etc acronyms to name their beauty creams. This article will explain the uses and applications of these products.

What are BB Creams?

BB originally stands for “Blemish Balm” and was made popular in Korea and throughout East Asia about 10 years ago. When brought to the western market, the name was adapted to mean beauty balm. Which is slightly confusing because the texture of the cream is nothing like a balm. The name is not the only difference, Asian BB creams tend to be thicker like a foundation, due to SPF protection. Whereas western BB cream provides sheer coverage. Regardless of the country of origin, BB creams are designed to provide the following:

  • Serves as a foundation

  • Primes skin for makeup

  • Moisturises skin

  • Offers UV protection

  • Conceals small blemishes

  • Anti-ageing function

 What are CC Creams?

CC stands for “colour correction”. These creams usually provide stronger UV protection, more coverage and skin brightening benefits for dark spots, discolourations and uneven skin tone. Just like our NEW! Sunbarrier Tone-up Illuminating CC Cream, which is designed to provide the following:

  • Serves as foundation

  • Anti-ageing function

  • Primes skin for makeup

  • Moisturises skin

  • Offers SPF 50+ UV protection

  • Conceals and fades dark spots and discolourations

  • Corrects redness

  • Instantly illuminates skin tone
